When the World Falls Apart, Look Up!
How Revelation Gives Us Hope

How can we find hope when the weight of the world feels so oppressive? Heavy? Where do we turn when everything around us seems to be falling apart? As things seem to get worse, it’s not our imagination. The Bible clearly predicts a difficult and devastating future on earth before God makes all things new.
So, as things begin to unravel, we need to be reminded that things are not falling apart. They are actually falling into place…right at the feet of Jesus! Revelation 21 reminds us to keep looking up!
Things are not falling apart. They are actually falling into place…right at the feet of Jesus!
I’ll never forget a story my brother shared of an experience he had years ago on the border of Rwanda. He related that the hot African sun beat down unmercifully on everything and anything while he was trying to cross the border between Uganda and Rwanda in the fall of ’94. The Rwandan civil war had ended, and he had just made arrangements for medical services to be given to hundreds of thousands of refugees inside Rwanda.
As he prepared to cross the border, guarded by soldiers who lounged at their posts, he noticed a little Rwandan girl. She was seated in the back of a pickup truck, clutching a blanket, rocking back and forth, and quietly singing to herself. My brother was told she was one of the thousands of children whose parents had been killed during the war. This little girl had personally witnessed the violent deaths of every member of her family. She was left all alone in the world.
When my brother asked a nearby soldier what she was singing, he listened casually then said, “She is singing something about God’s love.” My brother asked the soldier to listen more carefully and tell him exactly what she was singing. This time the soldier listened intently then said, “She is singing ‘Jesus loves me, this I know; for the Bible tells me so.’”
The evil actions of others had stripped the little girl of everything except her faith in Jesus! In a deeply moving way, the little girl was clinging to all she had left in the world, which was her hope in God’s love for her.
God gives us the courage to look up
Such stories read in the newspaper, such scenes of cruelty observed on televised newscasts, such violence witnessed in our streets and schools and homes could cause any caring person to be deeply distressed over the evil actions of wicked people in our world. I find myself at times avoiding the news because of the outrage I experience at such reports.
But sometimes the evil actions of others become very personal, and we cannot avoid them because they are committed against us or against our loved ones. In such instances, the outrage can become a root of deep-seated anger, hatred, frustration, fear, and bitterness that festers until our lives are filled with agitation and distress.
If you have been stripped of anything—or everything—look up!
Have you been stripped of everything? Stripped materially, emotionally, financially, socially, intellectually, physically? Stripped of your marriage, your health, your family, your home, your friends, your reputation, your youth? Are your days filled with distress because of the evil actions of others? Does your future look bleak and barren because your present is so bitter?
If you have been stripped of anything—or everything—look up!
“Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God … And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death” or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’” (Revelation 21:1, 2a, 3-4)
The vision of God’s glory gives you and me the same hope for the future as the little Rwandan refugee. What hope did she have for the future? None—except for the hope she had in Jesus. In Him, each of us has a glorious future—a glorious hope—because one day God will straighten the crooked, right the wrong, humble the proud, judge the wicked, and vindicate the righteous! He will settle accounts! Why? Because God is just! And righteous! And holy! And good!
God promises to make everything new
Revelation 21 reminds us that we can trust the Judge of all the earth to do right. Trust Him! This is the challenge for you and me when we see His judgment begin to take effect.
Like the piercing rays of the sun penetrating through blackened storm clouds, ask God to help you see His glory penetrating the dark wickedness and rebelliousness of the entire world. Even now, God is vindicating His people and setting us free to place our faith and hope in the One who alone is absolutely just, righteous, and merciful…Jesus.
Ask God to help you see His glory penetrating the dark wickedness and rebelliousness of the entire world.
Keep looking up! One day, we are going home to live with Him forever! His glory will no longer be a vision by faith, we will see Him face-to-face! And that will be heaven!
“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’” (Revelation 21:5)

Hallelujah!
Thanks be to God for using you as His own special vessel for special purposes.
Reading what you wrote concerning: Asking God to help us see His glory penetrating the dark/wicked and rebelliousness of the entire world, has helped to much through all that l’ve been through these days. Thank you so much. May Gods Blessings overflow.
thank you for your insights. The simple song “Jesus Loves Me” has such powerful words of hope. Our young children don’t seem to sing much. I started to teach this song, but was discouraged because they just didn’t seem to want to sing. Your story reminds me to just keep giving out the truth. Your family has been such a great blessings in our country.
Just Give Me Jesus – was given to me at a critical time. Thank you for your generous service.
God bless you, Anne, for helping us to look up.
Thanks Ann for sharing on the Hope of Revelation, I enjoyed what you had to say. God bless you as you continue serve Him.
I enjoyed this article very much!!
Thank You BSF for publishing this article. Such a refreshing read.
And May God Bless each and everyone of the BSF Staff this Day.
Author Anne Graham Lotz’s words are inspiring and comforting. Since we are living in a fallen world, we must look up on order to endure.
The story of the little Rwandese girl whose parents were massacred with others has left me in tears. She sang, Jesus loves me this I know. Yet she had just witnessed her parents being butchered. This is the comforting hand of our Father. It has really challenged me.
So thankful for this ‘reminder’! We need to keep our focus on things from ‘above’ not what’s going on around us ‘down here’! Praise God for His awesome promises to us!
Thank You!
This is such a blessing and timely reminder. Thank you!
Annes article really spoke to me, I’ve shared how I feel in a personal struggle, but if that little rwhanded Girl can look up and see Gods love in her tragic loss I can for sure
These blogs are well written giving insight of hope in God’s word. They give perspective of His greatness, faithfulness and love. I look forward to reading them.
The story of the Rwandan girl losing her parents yet singing of Gods love spoke volumes to me, yes, in my continued issues which are nothing compared to a lot of real heartache people are dealing with I can look up and wait for The Lord to give back what I’ve lost.
Wow, yes I agree!
This is such an encouraging paradigm view to of Rev 21 – Things are not falling apart. They are actually falling into place…right at the feet of Jesus!
I like the prayer call, “Ask God to help you see His glory penetrating the dark wickedness and rebelliousness of the entire world.” It is meant for me as I ponder over the events that are unfolding before me.
Excellent thought from Anne.Thank you.Yes in times of trouble we are left with our God of love and of hope.
Jin Pian
I would love that!
Excellent and timely article
God bless you
Many thanks 🙏🙏
I didn’t read this email when it first arrived, but I didn’t delete it. I read it today, as I was going back through the week’s emails I had glossed over. Today was the perfect day for me to read it.
The story of the little girl brought me to tears. I pray she remained with Jesus. 🙏
I am praying for many who are dealing with various losses and worries today, none quite as drastic as that little girl’s, but some felt equally as deep, I am sure. The truth remains, Jesus is the answer to each need. Yes, there are other parts, but His love is the first and best answer.
I need some prayers
Iam passing through the wilderness pray with me for His grace to be sufficient and I may come out successfully
Silas,
My prayers are for you in all your requests. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to pray for you. I have been through many wildernesses in my life too. Some of my best moments with Him is during these times. Lean into God, with all your heart, and trust. He is everything that you need now and to come.
In Christ,
Silas, as I began praying for you, I seemed to sense that your situation has improved or it soon will. Either was, God is moving on your behalf. Be assured that He can be trusted. May you be blessed as you draw nearer to Him.
What a beautifull message so necessary by those hard times.
God is the only one, The One who realy help me at each day, each moment. By grace and hope, I can keep confidence in the future
despite actual despair. Let’s hope that more people can see God’s
beauty and splendour. Many thanks to BSF which gave me access
to renewed faith.

The evil actions of others had stripped the little girl of everything except her faith in Jesus! In a deeply moving way, the little girl was clinging to all she had left in the world, which was her hope in God’s love for her.
The evil actions could not stripe off her faith, this is what remained of the girl, I am encouraged, oh Lord, may my faith remain after all as happened in this life
This is very relevant to all of us who have any Godly ‘feel’ regarding what is happening world wide. I admit to becoming both despairing and anger. This can so easily become bitterness against people and also God!
Many thanks for this contribution.
Things are not falling apart, They are falling into place – at Jesus feet!
how true and encouraging this statement is to me.
Thank you for reminding me that things are not falling apart but falling in place as we look forward to the return of our savior, JESUS CHRIST!
I am so grateful for BSF, I do not have words to express my gratitude, so many times I am so emotional that I cry tears of joy. And as I was reading what Anne wrote, my eyes are filled with tears because I recalled how I was stripped, all because I refused to compromise, I have decided that I am not going to allow anyone/anything to separate me from The God of my salvation. I have been told, “loosen up, you do not have to be so strict “. But I know what God’s instructions are, I understand His warnings and consequences. I’m encouraged by John’s vision in Revelation, I am looking forward for to that place that my Heavenly Father has prepared for me in Heaven! I feel so sad for those who are playing with God, saying they are Christians but yet indulging in the same things that caused my Savior’s death, the thing that hurts me most is that they have read God’s word/ warnings.
BSF is my other family 👏🌻 , the sunshine in my life, one of the best things that happened to me since I transition to Central Florida. It is my prayer that BSF will grow to the maximum extent possible for God’s glory!
To all who have made BSF available and to those who are committed to this wonderful ministry, thank you! God bless you!
Yours at The Feet of Jesus,
Gloria M. Francis.
Beautifully said! God bless you!
Thank you for sharing the story of the little girl-such a warmth of God’s love.
Truly even when stripped of everything we can look up!!
I now realize that the reason God brings me loneliness & makes me see the slow aging of myself, my loved ones & my surroundings is so that I will remember that Jesus is my best friend & Savior & that what I am really lonely or homesick for is His presence & my forever home in heaven with all it’s beautiful perfection!
I’m thankful to have had this email and this story to catch my attention and pull me forward to read more. I want to jump in and study more of Revelation… and I’m timid. I’m grateful to BSF for the impact you continue to make in the lives of men and women and children and families all over.
Thank you am already in BSF doing revelation the hope in Kenya. God’s mark protects, while Satan’s mark incites God wrath. The mark reveals each person’s heart and allegiance. A call for God to punish evildoers. Even people’s angry revolts will be used by God to bring glory to Himself.
Anne gives me hope. May God give me courage to always look up no matter what.
The quote, “Things are not falling apart. They are actually falling into place…right at the feet of Jesus” is comforting and true.
I have been deeply wounded by another family member. When I read this quote, I suddenly saw my problem at the feet of Jesus. In tears, I put down my anger and pain. I prayed, forgave and remained in Jesus’ love. Thank you Anne.
Beautiful inspiration ❤️
I Really appreciate the word of God and the encouragement to keep looking up and keep theFaith.
Thank you for sharing! God bless.
I was raised to know God, the Holy Trinity, but not knowing Jesus as my personal Savior. A friend invited me to BSF when I was newly married in 1987. It was first time i opened a a Bible to study for myself. I’ve invited friends and we have a saying. BSF ruins you for any other formal study. We say it of course, with highest respect and praise for desiring to know God more.
I have a Pamela in my international online BSF group and she has a heart for the Word just like you!
Praise God for the message from Anne. I thank God for BSF and His word.. going out, going forth.. I pray more more boldness in these days to represent Him rightly in words and action.
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your sharing. It reminds me how God’s Love is. He is the shepherd who never leave nor forsake. In this time of despair He is our Hope and Comfort. May all of us be more and more close to Jesus to live with His unshakable peace.
Anne, I was saved as I read your father’s book “How To Be Born Again”. You were blessed with a wonderful father and teaching mother.
Thank you for this inspiring message of hope which all of us need in this tumultuous time when it seems the leadership has lost their minds and the anxieties are so high and men’s hearts are failing them for fear of the things that are beginning to happen especially in our country.., I’ve been a member of BSF about 7 years now and I’ve learned so much, despite the fact that I’ve taken a semester course in Old and New Testament, Christian Doctrine, and Life and Letters of Paul.
Thank you for this message today. I came into my study to begin my BSF lesson and felt a real heaviness in my heart regarding something I had just read in the news. I appreciate the reminder to always look up! He is our only hope! I really needed this today.
I chose to use Anne’s message as a lead in to my quiet time today. The story of the Rwandan child is very touching and I have prayed that she is now or is becoming an ambassador for Jesus!
BSF was for me in my 30s the beginning of a much deeper knowledge and confidence in the Word. His voice, presence, activity and affirmation along with a BSF leader wife have steadied my walk!
JUST what we needed to be reminded of for such a time as this! Thank you!
What a wonderful way to start the day and read these encouraging words, straight from God’s word, given by former BSF Teaching Leader, Anne Graham Lotz.
Pray for my dad (97), mom (94), and my brother (72) on palliative care for lung transplant rejection. Praise Him for extending their lives. However, they need God’s grace to soften their hearts, open their eyes and ears to see and hear Jesus calling. Just as urgent would be salvation for my youngest son (41) and the rest of my family.
Debbie, I feel such empathy for you at this time. Your parents have had a long life. When their time does come, you can be prepared as God’s mercy is always available for them. Praying for your requests.
Praying with you, Debbie, for your family members to trust Jesus and for you to sense His peace in your situation.
Thanx for this! I live in a U. S. state where things seem to be quickly falling apart . . .
I’m excited to remember to look up, that God/Jesus will make all things right in good time. I just need to be patient. He will make it happen!
How amazing!!! Anne, you definitely have your father’s genes. I also liked his teachings. Thank you for sharing God’s Word.
A great encouragement !! I especially like the quote “Things are not falling apart. They are actually falling into place, right at the feet of Jesus”
He us in full control.
Thank you Anne.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful reading from Anne Graham Lotz. I always enjoy reading God’s words from her. And right in time with our study of Revelation.
So lovingly encouraging. So needed at this present time. Thanks to our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
A letter of Hope. Going along with our BSF study on Revelation-the Hope.
Reminding us to keep looking up.
What a blessing! Thank you and your family for all you’ve done to reflect the light of Jesus in the world. I ‘m 76 and I’ve seen the bad but God is good. He is always there to lighten the load.
Today, I feel like I’m surrounded by angels. God bless!
Thank you Anne for the encouraging message, so uplifting especially in the current situations of this cruel world. Indeed Jesus loves us all in our situations.
BSF has changed my life. I am a work in progress. I will continue BSF.
A very inspiring article especially to me having recently lost my only son.
just what I needed at this moment -on this day
Thank you I am completing some tasks with renewed energy as
I find myself singing Jesus loves this I know because the bible tells me so what strength to be able to rely on.
Ursula a member of BSF.Tokyo
Thank you for such an encouraging blog. No matter what our struggles, we only need to look up and keep our eyes on Jesus. Thank you BSF & Thank you Anne, for keeping us grounded on the Word of God.
God gives us courage when things fall apart when you are in God there is hope even when things look hopeless, especially in the situation we are in Kenya of unemployment, high taxes, corruption, cancer, and terminal diseases on the increase than believers like me and find hope in Jesus, I just need to look up to God and have hope to live each day.
Please pray for my daughter and family who I’m praying for to come to Jesus
My daughter made that decision in grade 10 but is not a believer now
I’m so enjoying Revelation
God is in control
This is what I needed to hear in this season of life’s challenges that I am currently facing. I believe that God will see me through, after all is said and done, I shall conquer, my family shall conquer, the enemy is defeated and shall be exposed in Jesus name.

I have led Bible studies for over twenty years. Recently I moved andI met a fellow resident who invited me to her newly formed BSF BibLe study. It began during Covid and we studied over the internet. I was surprised how much I learned in spite of this newly created training style.
We now meet weekly and there are over fifty women in attendance. I love the four step approach.I am beginning a closer understanding of God’s word especially of Revelation I am getting ready to see Jesus soon.I am ready to share his promises boldly with others
I enjoyed Anne’s article on Revelations 21 because my hard heart bothered me because I thought I was a loving person yet lately have little patience or grace How little I’ve been through compared to the little girl who watched her family die at the hands of evil and still sings of our Savior ‘a great love. Truly God was in that place of her love for Him.
still sings of God’s love.
Anne is an absolute favorite of mine. Her devotional are so uplifting. “Just Give Me Jesus” introduced me to her years ago. I’m pleased to hear of her involvement with BSF. Thank you for being such a strong influence and so REAL!
I’ve belonged to Jesus since a child. But this BSF study has turned me around in a new way!I am now old (pushing 90) but Jesus made me newer than ever!
What an uplifting article. I too feel like my world is falling apart!
Thanks, Sister Lotz for the reminder that our Lord Jesus is still on the throne and in control and to keep looking up! Let’s take our eyes off our circumstances, and like the little Rwanda girl remember JESUS loves us and has us in the palm of His hands.
In His love and peace 🙏🏽 ❤️
How great is His Holy Spirit, to receive this powerful reflection just in time of painful distress in our family, providing great support, relief and hope by placing all our sufferings on Jesus Christ Holy Hands.
Thankyou for your lovely words of hope and encouragement.
I love this story, makes me cry of hope.
I was feeling that my life was going falling apart.
I started looking up.
This message came just on time, when I most needed.
Thanks for sharing
God bless you always 💖
This blog is so uplifting! Thank you! BSF has been a cornerstone of my personal walk with Jesus. The men in my discussion group have taught each other so much, and I love learning from them every week. Looking up and waiting for His glorious return!
I love BSF. I’ve been doing it since 2000. I am a children’s leader. All of my children have gone through the program. They are all adults now and do it as adults. I thank you all for all your hard work in making BSF happen.
I needed this encouragement today! After missing BSF this week because of illness, I felt a spiritual void. Revelation can be a scary book but we need not fear because we have Jesus. I can hardly wait to read and study the last chapters. We win!!!
I dearly love the support of the BSF family. I had to stop going to group due to multiple medical issues, but am still able to follow along with my workbook and link to the website.
This has been a particularly challenge week. Looking up and knowing Jesus has my hand has kept me going.
Hello dear friends, what a great piece of God’s Word from Anne. Thank you Anne and BSF.
It sang to me as I met a lady with faith in hospital who has a brain tumour… I was her bed neighbour for 1 night until I was discharged yesterday. I have just read Anne’s piece tonight and feel humbled that I met the lady in hospital yesterday who is in a dark place and Anne’s reflections on the desperate little girl clinging onto Jesus in her darkest hour – the beauty of our lives to come is so important to look up too.
I copied these headlines from Anne’s piece that capture key words for us to hold near.
Things are not falling apart. They are actually falling into place…right at the feet of Jesus!
If you have been stripped of anything—or everything—look up!
God gives us the courage to look up
Keep looking up! One day, we are going home to live with Him forever! His glory will no longer be a vision by faith, we will see Him face-to-face! And that will be heaven!
Amen
I Truly Love this story for, I Know Jesus Loves Me because I joined BSF 13 yrs. I really needed this message of Hope today. I have been feeling hopeless in my circumstances but I know I need to be strong and share the gospel with family and friends and others. I love BSF and it always lifts me up! Thank you!
Anne is a godly representative of the gospel. I recently joined a BSF study for the first time. It has blessed my life with so many ladies that feel and express the “Love of our Savior “ God is moving throughout the world in mighty ways . Just watch what “ He” does !!
I lived in Pitt County from 1960 through March 2014 and heard you Speak at ECU and now I live in Blacksburg, VA to be near my Daughter and Son and his family. My wife of 56 years passed away after 31/2 years of Severe Dementia.
But I’m not alone, HE is with me. I have followed Jesus for decades. I am studying Revelation as a member of BSF.
GOD BLESS YOU and all you
and your Brother, Franklin are doing to bring others to the Jesus Christ.
Bill
I needed this today! Stop looking down in defeat. Look up and trust He is making all things new.
From the BSF notes, Lesson 17, series VII, page 2 and 3 on the Acts 2011-2012 study, it stated —“Even so-called Christian countries are turning away from the Scriptures to form their own religion and to worship a Jesus who is not the Jesus of the Bible.” =====> One must have the genuine Jesus of the Bible for salvation. Please see **2 Cor. 11:3-4.**
I love this article!!! It is a really good reminder of how faithful God is in any and all situations! As we study Revelation about all the evil the devil is doing, we can look forward to that new glorious heaven and earth that are prepared for all believers! Even when we or someone we know go through trials and tribulations, if we just hold onto Jesus, He will bring or carry us through anything we encounter. The little girl from Rwanda held on tightly to her memory of being taught about Jesus, that is what we must do also! Nothing is impossible for Jesus to help us overcome!!! Praise the Lord!!!
Hi, I joined BSF eight months ago. It gives me a lot of inspiration to study the words and come to know God through Jesus more. There is a lot of prayers I wanted to shared. I’m going through a very painful time in my life right now I hope the road gets easier as we get older and wiser. May Jesus hears all our prayers that He grants us patience to endure difficult times. Amen
This message was so inspiring. Thank you Ann Graham Lotz for sharing this with us, and that you BSF for giving us this message of hope.
I enjoyed the reading of the passage. Sometimes I am echoing John ‘s words Come quickly Lord Jesus!
Amen, Sister! One day our faith will be realized. Hope will be found absolutely true. Our love will grow ever deeper. My prayer for every BSF leader is to remember who you are in Christ and live like it. We are the salt and light. Keep your armor on and press forward. The night is coming, so be ready.
Thanks for this reminder from Anne Graham Lotz. The current BSF study has really impacted me with respect to the destiny of unbelievers. I think “looking up” in our daily lives, especially during these uncertain times, would be a good witness to the unsaved.
LOVE BSF!
I’m doing the Revelation study now, which is about the third BSF study I’ve done. I appreciate digging into the Bible, but would like to see more questions on how what we’re reading in scripture relates to what we’re seeing in our culture today.
This was such a treasure in my inbox. Thank you! I am enjoying Revelation very much and appreciate all the effort BSF has put into making this challenging book of the Bible easier to digest. I am also enjoying Dr Mark Bailey each week.
Thank You BSF and Staff for this study of Revelations
To help dig deeper with in. And to help remind us to keep looking UP to Jesus.
I was so blessed by this message! So timely in my life!
Yes my dear Rwandan girl Jesus loves you and me. Thank you for sharing this testimony. I would like to thank BSF for the Children programme which I believe will give the young children such huge faith in Jesus. Surely all other ground is sinking sand. I will put my faith on Jesus alone and look no where else except up when the world falls apart.
