The Bible Says … God Hears Your Prayers

HOW “MANNA” IN REVELATION 2 REMINDS US THAT GOD HEARS OUR PRAYERS

From the Editorial Team

We believe the Bible tells a single story, celebrating the one true God who hears His people. From beginning to end, Genesis to Revelation, we discover that God hears those who cry out to Him. This enduring attribute of God is woven into every book and chapter. Even the smallest details in Scripture reveal that God hears us when we pray.

The hidden manna

In Revelation 2:17, Jesus speaks to suffering people. He offers hope and victory for those who persevere in faith. Jesus demonstrates the lengths to which God will go to meet our needs when we call out to Him. Jesus says, “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna.

Throughout Scripture, “manna,” or bread from heaven, reminds us that God hears His people and tenderly provides just what we need when we need it.

In Exodus 16, the Israelites were exhausted, wandering the desert, and doubting God’s faithfulness. In verse 3, they cried, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

In His mercy, God heard His people. The Lord said to Moses, I will rain down bread from heaven for you … I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God’” (Exodus 16: 5,12).

God fulfilled this promise. Scripture tells us, “The people of Israel called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.” (Exodus 16:31). Upon giving the manna to the Israelites, the Lord commanded this: “Take an omer of manna and keep it for the generations to come, so they can see the bread I gave you to eat in the desert when I brought you out of Egypt” (Exodus 16:32).

Generations later, God’s people cried out again. Struggling under Rome’s authority, God responded. Breaking 400 years of silence, He provided exactly what they needed—Jesus.

In John 6:48-51, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

The heart of God

In Revelation 2, the reference to manna reminds us that God hears His people when we call out to Him. When we persevere in faith, God provides just what we need to stand victorious in Christ. God’s provision sustains His people. In His tenderness, He meets our deepest needs.

Revelation was written to bring hope to suffering people, and the “hidden manna” gives us hope today. When life feels overwhelming, and we simply don’t feel “victorious,” we can trust that when we cry out to God, we cry out to the one who hears and provides.

  9. God does hear our cries, when we trust him. My daughter was on the liver transplant list for 4 years, but on Good Friday 2024, the doctor cancelled the possibility that she would be able to receive a new liver. During Easter week of 2024, GOD HEARD ME. That Monday after EASTER 2024, we receive the call that the doctor had a meeting and decided to go ahead and perform the surgery. On TUESDAY 25 MAY 2024, my daughter was told to be at the transplant hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Chevon received her new liver, is doing well and in July of 2024, she enjoyed her 40th birthday. She was able to see her daughter (her only child) turn 6 years old in August 2024. God definitely hear our cries.

  10. I recently was memorizing Psalm 20 and was also impressed that the Lord hears me when I cry out to Him. I wrote this in my devotional:

    The LORD will answer you.
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble…. Psalm 20:1

It is important to note that in order for the LORD to answer, we must also “cry out” or “call upon” Him. I would hate to count the times that I have groaned in my spirit about life circumstances or the cultural impact around me without taking the time to cry out to Him. As “righteous Lot” was oppressed by his surroundings, I can also relate.
and [if] He (God) rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard [that] righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds) (2 Peter 2:7-8)
What I (we) need to do is turn my focus away from the chaos of the storm and fix my gaze heavenward. He promises to answer us.
Psalm 3 David writes while in the thick of battle: I was crying to the LORD with my voice and HE ANSWERED ME from His holy mountain. I lay down and slept; I awoke for the LORD sustains me.
Psalm 5, David writes again Give ear to my words, O LORD; Consider my groaning; Heed the sound of my cry for help, My King and my God, for to YOU do I pray.
Psalm 18 tells in very picturesque words what happens when we cry out to Him: I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies…In my distress I called upon the LORD and He heard my voice out of His temple; And my cry for help came into His ears. Now picture what the Psalmist says happens when the LORD hears our helpless cry for help:
Then the earth shook and quaked; And the foundations of the mountains were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry. Smoke went up out of His nostrils, And fire from His mouth devoured; Coals were kindled by it. (what a description of His anger toward an enemy attacking us) … He sent out His arrows, and scattered them, And lightning flashes in abundance, and routed them. Then the channels of water appeared, And the foundations of the world were laid bare… At Your rebuke, O LORD, … At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. (What power! At the blast of the breath of His nostrils He wipes out the bad guys!) He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. (I was drowning in attacks) He delivered me from my strong enemy, And from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me (but NOT for HIM) … He brought me forth also into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.

See what happens when we cry out to Him? He hears! He helps! He rescues! He delivers!
Isaiah 30:18-19 teaches this truth as well.
Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him. 19 O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you (WHEN?) at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.

He knows my every need. Especially when I cry out to him in my deepest sorrows. He always knows what’s best and answers me in ways I never would have or could have imagined. This year he healed a broken relationship with my sister after 11 years of prayer. Praise God he is always hearing as I pray. He gave me back my sister my Mana from heaven.

My mana from God was that my boss gave me extra time, to the end of the week to meet the deadline which had passed.

God is so wonderful, what a stress relief to have extra time to concentrate and get it done

  30. Happy to be hearing the word of God through Revelations. In deed God answers prayers! I just relocated when BSF was just about to introduce Revelation for the 2nd time “in missing”. I tried online class but the times difference was a challenge. Managed a couple of online classes then I asked God to locate a physical class in my new area and to make it possible for me to be free on the study time. God did it in record time. I am now on lesson 7 with everyone else and enjoying the new BSF family away from home yet at home.
